First Journey to Akiiki's Career

Created by Stigmata 8 years ago
After Akiiki graduated from Kinyamasika Teacher Training College, she was posted to a Catholic Missionary Primary School, Munteme (Hoima-Fort Portal Rd), Bunyoro. She requested our parents that she takes me along with her for better education. At the beginning of 1960 we set off on foot from Bukoto to Wandegeya bus stop - Jajja Atwooki carrying the heaviest luggage (mattresses, etc), Akiiki with our suitcase and I carrying Akiiki's handbag. We settled well on the bus and Akiiki immediately started her teaching career by pointing out to me the various bus stops/villages - Nakulabye, Kasubi, Namung'oona, Nansana, Wakiso, Nkoowe, Kakiri, Gobero, Namayumba, River Mayanya, Busunju, Mate, Kikandwa, Bukomero, Kateera, Rwamata , ,Bukalamuli, Kiboga, Masodde, Katanabirwa, Rwebisiriza, Bukwiri, River Kafu, Butema, Bwikya-Kinuubi. We got off the bus and sought assistance of someone to carry our luggage to Akiiki Nyamahunge's home at Mparo. The following morning we started the final leg of our journey, on foot to the Hoima bus stop. Akiiki continued - we are crossing Nyankwanzi River, now in Kyarwabuyamba, Amaizi ga water (Water Supply Plant), Booma where we got on the bus to Muteme. Again Akiiki kept on her teaching - Kiryateete, Businsi, KITUNDURU-MUHWIJU (ancentral home of the Bazira Clan), Butema, Kiziranfumbi and finally Muteme (20 miles from Hoima), where Akiiki took over her official teaching assignment. At the end of the first term we packed a few things for our holiday in Bukoto and as soon as we sat in the bus to Hoima, she asked me to start naming the various bus stops/villages as we moved - now in reverse order. My teacher got me off-guard!! If you were the one would you have passed the test? You may give it a go.
Once a teacher, always a teacher. Love you Akiiki. Stigie.
